Care for the Stock
Ten Strategies for Architecture

Creative omission – what at first seems like a contradiction is, in view of the climate crisis, the urgent plea of the Association of German Architects (BDA) for a cautious and preserving approach to existing buildings. The exhibition Care for the Stock. Ten Strategies for Architecture at MK&G presents ideas and solutions. Architects and urbanists express their concern for the building stock, demand respect for evolved social structures and a responsible use of the earth's resources. How this can be achieved is shown by ten strategies and ten project examples that reflect the working methods, attitudes and expertise of the architects involved. On display are drawings, photographs, graphics, audio and video contributions, and a documentary film. The accompanying publication provides in-depth information.

The exhibition and publication were curated for the Association of German Architects BDA by Olaf Bahner, Matthias Böttger and Laura Holzberg.

An exhibition by the Association of German Architects BDA of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in cooperation with MK&G.

The exhibition project opened in 2020 at the German Architecture Center DAZ in Berlin and has since been on display as a traveling exhibition throughout Germany. The presentation in Hamburg is the seventh stop.

Care for the Stock. Ten Strategies for Architecture is a project in the BMI / BBSR research program "Experimental Housing and Urban Development" and is financially supported by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and the Homeland.
